On the 23rd of April, my" 3-year- old- of- a- husband" was allowed to turn 4! (Actually 29, but he enjoys being 4 much more). All he wanted was a fire pit for our patio so he could re-live his days in San Diego of having a fire on the beach roasting marshmallows all summer long. I told him the backyard is not quite as sandy nor do we have seagulls, but why let that stop him?... he got his fire pit. My family teased him by saying, "Who wants to have a fire on a nice 102 degree July evening?" Well, last Sunday, we had my two sisters and their families, my little brother and his wife and my parents come over for a hot dog roast and ice cream. Accompanied by man's best friend, lighter fluid, and a pile of wood, we had a pretty fun fire going that the little kids especially seem to enjoy.
I had to laugh when we were starting the fire because it made me think of the first time we had gone to San Diego together when he first moved to Utah. We were planning on having a big fire on his old surfing beach in Oceanside when I thought...where do people in California get wood? Here in Utah, we constantly had an ample supply at our house, our neighbor's house, my dad's work, the field across the street...there was wood everywhere. But in California.....wood is found at the local 7-11. I could not stop laughing when we bought 2 slurpies and bundle of wood!
Anyway, here are some pictures of the sacred event. I wish I had more, but I couldn't find my little storage card for my camera and my internal memory was full before the evening was even started!
