34 years in the making.....

Daralyn and I in front of the bookcase in our 1983 Easter dresses...it was built specifically for the 1800's encyclopedias on the bottom row....my parents still have those books....and the man-eating plant....

This is my latest project.....my dad's beloved bookcase he had built in the before he was married in the MID-1970'S!!!! I inherited it when I started teaching to use in my classroom. Before that, it was used in many photos as a background during various holiday seasons, was randomly located in multiple spots around their house, finally graduated from the basement to the deck (don't ask) which is where I rescued it a few years back.
I wanted to redo it for my classrom and paint it an olive green to match my ARMY decor. But, when I brought it home, I decided to paint and glaze it.
The ugly laying down version....
I painted it a creamy white, added base molding, bead board to the inside and crown molding to the top .....
Then I rubbed glaze on...it is my first time glazing and it SUCKED to wipe off. My garage was too hot! I'll remember that for next time.
The original top was a dark laminate, I flipped it over and stained the piece of plywood the laminate was glued to. So here it is drying in the sun.
It isn't decorated all the way, but I think it turned out okay! I still need to get some dark baskets or something to put on the bottom shelf. It came out WAY darker than I wanted, but for my first time, it will do!
I even glazed a mirror I had. I got this for my second wedding anniversary. It used to be bright white and just didn't match my house anymore. So, a little glaze never hurt anything!
